Junior College Scholarship Contest  

The Mixedminded.com Scholarship Essay Contest will award one lucky student, 300.00.  
* The following rules and regulations will apply.

  
Topics


·         Topic 1:  Why is college so important? Also, what would this scholarship mean to you, your family, and community?


·         Topic 2:  A great number of people tend to lead their lives like sheep. They tend to rely on rumors instead of doing their own research. Many acquire their knowledge and educated views though something they’ve heard at work, talk radio, or friends and family. A) How does this affect our society? B) How hard is it to change people’s minds and beliefs, even if they know the first story they heard was false.   C) What can we do to change this rumor driven (instead of fact) society?  

 ·         Topic 3:  Pros and cons of president Obama new health care plan.  All pros and cons statements must factual.   Assumptions will not be considered in this contest.  However in your closing remarks you my leave your brief opinion.  A) What Americans will this plan help? B) What Americans will this plan affect?
 
     
Eligibility
  • Student applicants must be currently enrolled in college w/ a GPA of at least a 2.0
  • Student applicants may be pursuing any degree
  • Student applicants may be either part-time or full-time students.
  • Key question to consider; when we contact your junior college will they be able to confirm that you are enrolled as a student. If the answer is no, you are not eligible.
How Do I Apply
  • Must join or be an active member on our FREE social networking site: http://www.mixedminded.com.
  • Go to your inbox in Mixedminded.com and choose the feedback button.
  • Ctrl copy your essay from your word document and paste it into the box, Then press send.
  • You will receive a confirmation from Mixedminded.com essay dept. within 24-48 hours that your essay was received and is being processed.
Contest Rules
  • Essays must be in English.  
  • Essay must have the following at the top of the first page submitted: Essay title, Author’s name, telephone number and email address, Community college name, address, telephone  number
  • All entries must answer one of the three topic questions.
  • Each student may submit only one entry
  • Essays may be submitted by individuals only - no group entries in this category will be accepted.
  • Submissions must be from 500-2000 words. We suggest that you count the words in your entry (or use the "word count" tool in your word processor) to make sure it does not exceed this limit.
  • Cut and paste your entry directly into the feedback tab in your inbox!  Then cut and paste it into the space provided on the form.
  • Essays must be submitted using the feedback submission in their inbox.
  • Essays must be original works written by the submitter and must not have been previously published anywhere else. Plagiarism will not be tolerated and will be reported to the student or faculty member’s school.
  • Essays should have a thesis statement, with paragraphs that support the thesis statement.
  • Well researched papers with references and footnotes that back up assertions are best, but judges aren’t looking for the paper with the most footnotes.
  • Essays need not be technical or demonstrate hyper-specialized scholarship, but they should be serious in content, tone, and style.
  • Essays will be judged based on clarity, rigor, eloquence, and precision.
Judging

  • Entries are evaluated based first and foremost on whether they address one of the three contest question:

  • Entries are judged based on effectiveness of message, ability to attract and hold attention, creativity, accuracy of information, and whether they are clear and compelling.. 

  • Each essay is read and ranked independently by a panel of 3 judges. All identifying information is removed from the essays so that they are judged blindly, in case any of the judges happen to have a previous familiarity with any of the contestants. After each judge has ranked their top three essays. Those top 9 essays will be posted as a blog and judged by the contestant’s peers/mixedminded members.
         

Announcement of Winners

  • Winners will be announced approximately two weeks prior to the current semester...

  • Submitted essays become the property of Mixedminded.com

  • Mixedminded.com will post winning essays on the website and will seek to have them published in various magazines and journals, and cooperate fully with the authors in their republication elsewhere, if deemed necessary
